About Us

The Research Area of Cosenza was established in 1990 and became operational in 1995, with the appointment of its Governing Bodies between 1996 and 1997. It was the last of the newly established research areas launched under the Program Agreement between the CNR and the Ministry for Extraordinary Intervention in the Mezzogiorno (MISM).
The Research Areas of the National Research Council (CNR), distributed nationwide, are designed to support the activities of participating CNR Institutes. This structure aims to rationalize and optimize expenses and shared services. The creation of these Areas focuses on bringing together the expertise and capabilities needed to provide integrated and effective solutions for internal requirements while fostering collaboration with local entities and regional authorities.
In 2020, under Provision No. 112, the Cosenza Territorial Research Area was reorganized following a new statute to further strengthen its coordination role.
